Looking for a comfortable, practical base for your next group adventure? The Hideaway is a cosy, secluded log cabin nestled within the beautiful grounds of Queen Charlotte’s Wood Activity Centre, offering indoor accommodation for up to 30 people.
With plenty of space to eat, relax and enjoy time together, The Hideaway is an ideal choice for Squirrel and Beaver sleepovers, Pack holidays, Troop and Unit trips, group weekends and outdoor adventures.
The cabin is heated throughout the year and comes with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a large activity and dining room, fully equipped kitchen, showers, toilets and Wi-Fi for adult volunteers.
Whether you’re planning your first overnight adventure or a longer group stay, The Hideaway provides a warm and welcoming base to make the most of everything Queen Charlotte’s Wood has to offer.

🍽️ Large Activity & Dining Room
The spacious activity and dining room provides plenty of room for your group to eat, relax, play games and spend time together.
The room includes:
- Chairs
- 6ft lightweight tables
👨🍳 Fully Equipped Kitchen
The Hideaway has a fully equipped kitchen, giving you the flexibility to prepare meals and refreshments throughout your stay.
The kitchen includes:
- Commercial-sized electric cooker
- Commercial electric grill
- Large fridge
- Freezer
- Electric warming oven
- Microwave
- Cooking pots and utensils
- Crockery and cutlery
Please bring your own hand towels and tea towels.
🛏️ Comfortable Group Accommodation
The Hideaway can sleep up to 30 people across five bunk rooms:
- 2 bunk rooms sleeping 10 people each – two bunks in each room have a third tier
- 2 bunk rooms sleeping 4 people each
- 1 bunk room sleeping 2 people
All bunks are supplied with mattresses.
Guests should bring their own pillows and bedding.
🚿 Toilets & Showers
The Hideaway has convenient indoor facilities, including:
- Male and female toilets with washbasins
- Two showers, including one shower room with a toilet
- Hot and cold water
🔥 Warm & Comfortable All Year Round
There’s no need to worry about the weather outside. The Hideaway is electrically heated throughout the year, making it a comfortable base whatever the season.
Heating includes:
- Wall-mounted convector heaters in the dormitories
- Ceiling-mounted infrared heating panels in the activity room and corridor
Please note: the activity room, corridor fire doors and porch internal door must be fully closed for the heating to operate correctly. If doors are left open, the system will switch to frost protection mode.
📶 Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available indoors and outdoors for adult volunteers.
Please be aware that internet availability cannot be guaranteed, as the site uses a satellite internet service.

For the safety and comfort of all our guests, pets and other animals are not permitted on site without prior written agreement from the bookings team.
Dogs and other pets are not permitted inside The Hideaway bedrooms, inner corridor, showers, toilets or kitchen at any time.
An additional cleaning charge may apply where pets have been brought onto site without permission.
