Rock Climbing

Climbing is the activity of ascending a rock feature, which can be natural or man-made. It is extremely popular with young people and is great for building their confidence and teaching them skills for assessing risk and safe working. Mersey Weaver are extremely fortunate to own both a mobile climbing wall and a permanent climbing wall at our Clogwyn activity centre both of which are suitable for young people and adults. The Mobile wall is available for hire by Scouting organisations both inside and outside of our District and included in the hire cost are enough harnesses, helmets, ropes and carabiners for 18 people.

We do have a pool of volunteer Permit holders who are sometimes willing to man the walls for groups inside of the District, but we are unable to guarantee instructors and as such both walls come as a dry-hires.

Both walls are also available to hire by Non-Scouting Organisations / Girl Guiding but this is dependent on meeting our insurance criteria. For further information please contact us directly to enquire before making a booking.

Mobile Wall

One of our volunteers can provide delivery of the Mobile wall (subject to availability) or hirers can arrange to collect and return the wall subject to the following conditions:

  • The climbing wall is on a braked trailer weighing 2000kg. Your vehicle must be suitable to tow such a weight.
  • The hirer is responsible for ensuring all statutory and legal requirements are met by those collecting/returning the wall. Including having the correct driving license.
  • The hirer/their staff will need to have completed training for the assembly/disassembly of the wall.

Membership of the Association of British Climbing Walls

Mersey Weaver is an aspiring member of the Association of British Climbing Walls covering both our static wall at the Clogwyn Centre and our Mobile Climbing Wall sited at Queen Charlotte’s Wood. The ABC promotes the professionalism, health, growth & diversity of indoor climbing. ABC member walls are committed to operate and manage their walls to current ABC Operational Guidelines and best practice.
