Queen Charlotte’s Wood is the perfect place for groups and units to enjoy an evening outdoors, whether you’re looking to gather around the campfire, take part in an evening activity, enjoy some team-building, or simply make the most of the woodland after dark.

We are delighted to welcome Mersey Weaver groups and units to use Queen Charlotte’s Wood for evening activities free of charge during the week.
This gives local groups the opportunity to make the most of the site outside of their usual daytime activities. From woodland games and team challenges to campfire evenings, storytelling and traditional outdoor skills, there are plenty of ways to create a memorable evening for your young people.
Whether you are planning a structured programme or simply want somewhere different to spend an evening together, Queen Charlotte’s Wood provides a fantastic outdoor setting for your group to explore, learn and have fun.

Want to make your evening even more memorable?
Why not book one of our two dedicated campfire circles? They provide the perfect setting for bringing everyone together at the end of the day.
Gather around the flames, share stories, sing songs, enjoy some food or take part in traditional Scouting activities. The campfire areas can also be used for a range of other group activities and are a great way to create that classic outdoor adventure experience.
Please note: Campfire circles must be pre-booked and are not automatically included with your evening visit.

If you are a non-Mersey Weaver Group and would like to visit Queen Charlotte’s Wood for an evening activity, you are very welcome to join us.

Our facilities provide a flexible base for leaders to build an evening programme around the needs and interests of their group.
📅 Booking Your Visit
For Mersey Weaver groups and units, weekday evening activities are free of charge, but please ensure that any facilities or activities requiring a separate booking are arranged in advance.
If you are planning to use a campfire circle, this must be booked separately before your visit.
For non-Mersey Weaver groups, please complete a Day or Evening Visitor booking before attending.
Once your booking and any associated products have been submitted, your booking will be reviewed and confirmed by our Bookings Manager.

QCW is a fantastic safe space for all kinds of Beaver games & learning. Our sleepover in February was a great success allowing many who hadn’t spent a night away from home the chance to step out of their (& their parents’ ) comfort zones. Having the Hideaway meant we had a shelter from the elements & didn’t have to bring the kitchen sink with us!
The facilities at QCW (toilets, drinking water, campfire circle etc) also make it a super venue for Beaver weekday meetings. This year we have star gazed, team sported, tracked, scavenger hunted, lit fires, backwoods cooked, sung songs (with s’mores!), celebrated Chinese New Year, learnt about animal habitats, run joint evenings with other Colonies, let off steam & more.
On Tuesday, the hottest day ever recorded in the UK, we were still able to go ahead with our games & party food night by keeping in the shade & spreading out the colony. During the ice pop break, a stoat made repeated appearances on the track eventually disappearing down the ravine. A discussion followed about what other animals might also use QCW once the noisy humans have gone home!🐿🐇🦊🦡🦉
A new parent helper commented, “I had no idea this place existed; it’s an absolute gem. The trees, the open space, the varied terrain. Our kids are so lucky to have such a super place to explore & it’s local too.”
