Nights Away Advisors Meeting

Nights away are an essential part of Scouting. They allow young people to become more confident and independent people, they assist with retention and are essential part of gaining top awards. As nights away advisors you are able to have a profound and far reaching impact on the lives of young people by enabling adults to take young people away.

Last year our leaders provided around 130 nights away experiences of varying lengths to young people. On average that is about 2 nights away experiences per section.

Having appointed additional Nights Away advisors, I am keen for us all to meet to discuss the following:

• What can we do to promote nights away opportunities especially for Beavers and Cubs?
• What support and training can we provide for adults in gaining the skills and experience they require to gain a nights away permit>
• What can we do to improve consistency of recommendations for nights away permits?
• To discuss appropriate restrictions on Permits and how we can enable more people to gain a permit through the use of restrictions
• Devise and propose ways of encouraging more young people to be involved in nights away
• Discuss what we can do to encourage the sharing of knowledge and good practice with regards to nights away
• Outline the process for leaders to request an assessment
