Climbing Competition 2022 | New Date TBC

Unfortunately the Climbing has been postponed.  A new date will be issued very soon.

The Event

The Mersey Weaver WSJ contingent are organising the first climbing competition in Mersey Weaver.  It is open to Scouts and Explorers entering as individuals or as part of 3 x person teams submitted by Troops/Units.  The ability to belay is not a pre-requisite for attending as we will have belayers on hand with each group of climbers.   Closing date for entries is the 7 Sept 2022.

All equipment with the exception of climbing shoes will be supplied by Mersey Weaver and will take place at Northwest Face, Warrington.  Subject to availability, climbing shoes can be hired from Northwest face for £3 per pair.

Scoring

The scoring is based on a number of graded climbs being available.  For each climb, the participant will be awarded points for the grade achieved multiplied by the number of attempts made.

• First attempt (Flash) = 10 Points
• Second attempt = 5 Points
• Third attempt  = 3 Points

• For example,
  • if a route is achieved with a grade of 4 on the first attempt, a score of 10 points x 4 (the grade), totals 40x will be awarded.
  • if a route is achieved with a grade of 5+ on the second attempt, a score of 5 points x 5.5 (the grade), totals 27.5x will be awarded.
  • if a route is achieved with a grade of 6a+ on the third attempt, a score of 3 points x 6.2 (the grade), totals 18.6x will be awarded.

Teams

Troops may enter team(s) made up of 3 Scouts.  The team requirements are:

• all participants must be members of a Scout Troop or Explorer Unit in Mersey Weaver; and
• all Scout team members must be at least 10 ½  and under 14 ½ on Saturday 27 September.
• all Explorer Scout team members must be at least 14 and under 18 years old on Saturday 10 September.
• Team members must be declared by the Troop’s Scout Leader or Unit’s Explorer Leader by 1 September.

  • Top scoring team – aggregate points

Proceeds

• All proceeds go towards our international fundraising team raising funds for the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea.
