Virtual First Response Course (Theory Only)

Who is the course for
This course is suitable for everyone but has been designed to primarily help Volunteers in Section Teams and Programme Delivery Roles to complete the requirements of Scout’s First Response Certificate.
Please note this is part of a Blended First Response course split into 3 parts:
- The first part of the learning is a 2 hour 30 minute self-study e-learning by following the link: https://hampshire-scouts.thinkific.com/courses/firstresponse
You must enrol and complete e-Learning course prior to attending this session.
Once completed you will need to forward your completion email you receive form Hampshire Scouts to darren.lord@merseyweaverscouts.org.uk - The second part is to attend this 2 hour 30 minute online session via Microsoft Teams
- Learners will then need to book on to or arrange a 30 minute practical session. You can either do this at a dedicated practical only session or tag on the end of a theory and practical session.
Initially places are prioritised to volunteers from Mersey Weaver but after 21 February we will open up places for other volunteers from elsewhere in Cheshire. Please book on by 14 March.
System Requirements
To participate in this course you will need to have access to a device running Microsoft Teams, Webcam and Microphone. You will be expected to participate in the course and be visible on camera and be able to answer questions.
Syllabus includes
- Principles of first aid and initial response (arriving and managing an incident)
- Initial response to a first aid situation
- Management of an unconscious casualty (child or adult)
- CPR, including technique for children and an explanation of what AED is and how to use it
- Choking
- Shock
- Bleeding
- Fractures (ambulance imminent and non-imminent) and sprains
- Head injuries
- Dental incidents
- Burns
- Asthma
- Anaphylaxis
- Heart Attack
- Stroke
- Seizures
- Diabetes
- Sepsis / Meningitis
Upon successful completion of the practical assessment, Learners will be awarded a First Response Certificate. This qualification is valid for three years from the date of the theory being achieved.
The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.
Participants
A maximum of 24 volunteers can be accommodated on this course. If you cannot attend anymore please let us know as soon as possible as places are extremely limited and in high demand.
